Fourteen steel trestles. That's what held the original weir together when it went in back in 1923. The remnants of that structure, plus its lock chamber, are preserved on site and listed as Historic Building No. 993.
The current structure is a 1990s replacement, built between 1993 and 1996 after foundation damage in 1992. It regulates the river level to divert water into the Torrumbarry Irrigation Area.
The self-guided Interpretive Centre on site has displays on water management, fishways, irrigation and Murray River ecology.
Around 500,000 ML gets diverted each year to about 120,000 hectares of irrigated land, with some also reaching the Kerang Lakes wetlands. Grassed areas, boat ramps and toilets are on site.
