A quiet spot on the Murray for two
Guests mention the serenity of Torrumbarry Weir Holiday Park as much as anything. The park sits directly on the weir, inside Gunbower National Park, and winter is the quiet season if you want the place mostly to yourselves. Summer is the busiest and the best time for the water.
Where to stay
The 8 cabins come in three ranges: Deluxe Riverview, Fleetwood Rainbow and Southern Cross. Each has an iron and ironing board and a bottled water cooler dispenser. Cabins check in from 2pm and check out by 10am. If you would rather camp, there are 12 powered and 13 unpowered sites on grass and gravel.
Days on the weir
Kayaks launch from the park ramp on the downstream side of the weir. Fishing is on the downstream side too, for Murray cod, golden perch, redfin, silver perch and carp, with a Victorian licence. There are informal walking tracks around the park, and birdwatchers rate the setting. In the evening, the camp kitchen has free barbecues, picnic tables and lighting on timers.
Eating out
The Torrumbarry Hotel is about 10 minutes away. Gunbower and Leitchville, about 15 minutes away, have the nearest pub, cafe and butcher. There is no shop at the park, so stock up at the BP Torrumbarry roadhouse, about 10 minutes away, or in Echuca, about 30 minutes away.
